About the HPC Network

Are you a Health Promoter?

Many people do not see themselves as health promoters (health promotion intermediaries). Health promoters include healthcare professionals, district health authorities, community health boards, as well as allied professionals such as teachers and community members serving on health boards (for example). Many people perform health promotion work in the workplace or in a volunteer capacity but do not consider themselves to be in health promotion. They are.

Health Promotion involves people and organizations working to improve the health and well-being of communities and individuals through education and strategies focused on the physical, social, economic and political issues impacting health. See the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion.

The Health Promotion Clearinghouse (HPC) and HPC Network

HPC is a non-profit resource system grounded in the principles of health promotion and population health. Its mandate is to enhance capacity for health promotion and disease prevention in Nova Scotia by providing tools, opportunities for networking, personalized support, and timely access to resources and expertise.

This HPC Network is a component of the Health Promotion Clearinghouse (HPC). It is an accessible and formalized web-based system aimed at expanding networking capability for enhanced communication, collaboration and knowledge sharing among health promoters in Nova Scotia. This network is funded by the Nova Scotia Department of Health Promotion & Protection (HPP), is built on the award winning platform, Telligent's Community Server, and was implemented by ITScooperative.
